WTO Confirms Ngozi OKonjo-Iweala For Second Term As Director-General

The World Trade Organization has confirmed for a second term as its Director-General.

The decision was made during a special General Council meeting where member states approved her leadership renewal.

Okonjo-Iweala, who first took office in March 2021, made history as the first African and the first woman to lead the world trade organization.

Early support for her reappointment came from 58 member countries, endorsing the African Group’s proposal for her continued leadership.

Her next four-year term will begin on September 1, 2025.
